University of Catania - Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture

Infrastructure monitoring at the network and project level can take strong advantage thanks to the support of the State of the Art in high-efficiency equipment available at the Laboratory of Transport Infrastructure of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (University of Catania) that is one of the most advanced University laboratory in Europe in the field of Road Asset Management. The lab has recently acquired Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) for total road monitoring and Falling Weight Deflectometer  (FWD) and LWD to test the road pavement bearing capacity and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). 

In this framework, the main application fields will be referred to: asset inventory, Network Safety Management, Pavement management System and Quality Assurance/Control, all of them under the light of sustainability. 

The research group headed by prof. Cafiso has also international reputation and expertise in the field of road safety and statistical analysis of crashes and road features for safety improvements.
